Christa was in charge this year, so it was held at a park in Kaysville. She did an excellent job! John and I really enjoyed it! The food was excellent. First thing John and I noticed when we got there was Jeff's new puppy "Leo." A golden doodle, (which is what John and I will eventually buy, since I'm allergic to dogs). He was so sweet. John held him for about an hour (which meant I was the designated food plate getter), until Jeff's daughter told him it was her turn. Ha ha! John was so in love with him... It was fun to watch the guys play the ping pong game (where they wrapped an empty tissue box around their waist and shook their butts as hard and as fast as they could in order to be the first to get their ping pong balls all out). John won, of course, but not without help from Kelly. The kids did gunny sack races. We played that relay game where you pass Life Savers to each other using only a raw spaghetti noodle in your mouth. And then of course, the very end involved a water fight, with those cool new water balloons that are so easy to fill! John made it so fun. He really enjoyed all the games and he got soaked by the kids in the end, but he loved it. It was a good break from our currently crazy lives. 8/26/17

Visiting Jim & Kinne
Well, we kind of visited them, but it was more them visiting us. They live in Idaho. After the reunion, we drove up to the home they were staying at (their friend's house, which happened to be right next door to President Eyring's house). We had a lot of fun chatting and catching up with them! Jim and John were really funny, reminiscing their Dewey escapades. They told us about their Thailand trip coming up (jealous!). Then Jim showed John some weird spots on his body, as a kind of warning that John would probably get them too, as he ages. Ha!(John thought that was hilarious). To be totally honest, I never realized how funny Jim was until today; he's a hoot. It was really a fun time. I'm so glad we went over there. Been a great day so far! 8/26/17
Car Broke Down
John called me saying he couldn't start the Honda (we just recently put a lot of money into that thing in order to get it to pass inspection!). He was at a trophy shop in Midvale. So I went and picked him up. Thankfully, we got to use Mom and Simon's Triple A. When the guy got there, he looked under the hood and discovered the problem was the "Starter." So he started the car for us and we drove it over to Mike's Auto Shop down the street there on State street. It was an easy fix, but not cheap. Over $400 when you include labor! A total rip off if you ask me. 8/28/17
Hurricane Harvey Flood
It's been incredible to watch the comradery and brotherly kindness the people in Texas have shown to one another in the midst of all their chaos. The rain levels were astronomical. I saw pictures on Twitter of elderly people in an old folks home, sitting in their wheelchairs in water up to their rib cages; dogs and horses being saved before getting swept away with the force of the water. A large number of people have died; one lady was smashed by a falling tree; another family's van got sucked under the water and the pressure wouldn't allow them to escape, so they drowned. But in the midst of all the tragedy, you get to see all the heroes. There were so many of them that were so anxious to help. It was a beautiful thing to watch. A news station interviewed a young man and his son, asking them what they had experienced. The man explained that when the flooding started, they had to keep running up to higher floors in their apartment complex, but he was so grateful they were able to escape. They lost everything in the flood and had nothing with them, but he was holding his son's hand, smiling, and kept repeating "God did it. God saved us." The Texans are beautiful people and through this process the world is able to witness that. 8/30/17
Side note: local government officials chose to not advise their citizens to evacuate beforehand. That's truly a shame. I don't think the citizens were aware of just how severe this storm was going to be.
